Hollington one game from glory after win over Sidley
Hollington won away to local rivals Sidley in a monumental game for the Lions’ season.
It was always going to be a tough game, but with the Lions having the pressure of needing to win, it made it even more of an exciting watch. The game started off very cagily, and neither team could get a firm grip on the game. Chances came for both sides but nothing really clear-cut.
However, in the 27th minute Hollington took a deserved lead. After a good bit of team play, the ball was played through to Bailo Camara, who managed to get a touch on the ball just outside the six-yard box. The ball rolled under the keeper and into the net.
Sidley grew into the game a bit more after their setback with a few shots from outside of the box. Nothing troubled Hollington keeper Elliot Stokes.
The second half was a very tense affair. Both teams were desperate to get the three points.
Hollington put on a very professional display and were solid defensively. The Lions also kept a lot of the ball and despite a few late chances, Sidley never looked very dangerous. Another huge three points in the title race for Hollington, and another defeat for Sidley.
Lions boss Scott Price said: “Once again it was a question of how many we had available and it was a case of players playing through injury and playing out of position. Our back line was tremendous again. I can’t think of a save Elliot had to make if I’m honest.
"That’s four clean sheets in five which is tremendous considering the quality of opposition we’ve faced. I thought young Pat Willis was superb, starting his first game. He's only just turned 18 after coming through the youth set-up, and he didn’t look out of place against a midfield who had two players who have played in the FA Cup third round.
"We have a much needed eight days off now before we play our last game of the season at home to Willingdon, where I’m told a win would be enough to win the league. We will asses the players at the end of the week and again see what we have fit and available.
