Hollington edge past Athletic & Baptists win again

Hollington United underlined second place in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division with a 3-2 victory away to third-placed Ore Athletic.

Luke Towner and Grant Cornelius were on target for Athletic on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Battle Baptists completed their season with a fourth successive victory to move up to sixth.

Mark Dowling scored a hat-trick, Gary Bryant bagged a brace and Gary Walsh also found the target in a 6-1 triumph at Iden. Rob Levett netted Iden’s consolation.

Hawkhurst United have been crowned champions of Division One after second-placed Mountfield United were held to a goalless draw away to Ticehurst.

That result also allowed third-placed Bexhill AAC to move within three points of Mountfield having played a game less. Craig Ottley’s penalty gave AAC a 1-0 win at Hollington United II.

JC Tackleway moved up to third in Division Two after scheduled opponents Pebsham Sibex were unable to raise a side. Tackleway are a point behind second-placed Old Hastonians with two games in hand.

Second-placed AFC Hastings lost 2-0 away to bottom-of-the-table Herstmonceux II in Division Three, David Brown and Bobby Allen scoring the goals. Hastings head third-placed Peche Hill Select II on goal difference and the two teams will face each other in their final matches.

Bexhill AAC II couldn’t field a team to face neighbours Little Common III in Division Four.

Division Five champions Mayfield suffered only their second league loss of the season with a 3-2 defeat away to second-placed Sedlescombe Rangers II.

Third-placed Grasshoppers Old Boys lost 5-2 away to JC Tackleway II.

Battle Baptists II boosted their bid for a top three finish with a 7-1 thrashing of bottom side Magham Down. Finlay Garlick and Josh Barraclough netted hat-tricks, and Jamie Crouch got the other.

Wittersham II were 3-2 winners in both matches of their double header against Hailsham Athletico. George Randall (2) and Nathan Jackson scored for Wittersham in one of the games, while Carl Davey (2) and Jackson netted in the other.

Caleb Dreeling scored the consolation as AFC St Leonards lost 6-1 away to Victoria Baptists and slipped beneath their conquerors to third-from-bottom.

Division Six champions Orington finished their campaign with a 2-1 win away to Battle Baptists III, whose goal was scored by Richard Chambers.

FC Westridge’s hopes of finishing second were hit by a 2-1 reverse at home to Sandhurst II.
