Hastings stay in play-off spots despite latest draw
Hastings United Football Club has clung on to the final play-off spot despite being held to a third consecutive draw today (Saturday).
United had to make do with a 1-1 draw away to Ramsgate, but remain fifth in Ryman Football League Division One South after a mixed set of results for the teams around them.
Corinthian-Casuals jumped above United to fourth courtesy of a fine 2-0 win at home to second-placed Dorking Wanderers, while Carshalton Athletic dropped below United to sixth after losing 3-1 at home to third-placed Greenwich Borough.
Lewes are up to seventh - with the same number of points as United and Carshalton - on the back of a 1-0 victory at home to a Hythe Town side which is just a point adrift of United in eighth.
After back-to-back draws against Chatham Town last weekend and Hythe on Tuesday, United would’ve been keen to rediscover the winning formula against a Ramsgate team lying just below halfway in the table.
And after a scoreless first half, United - who gave a debut to Charlie Harris in place of injured captain Simon Johnson in midfield - drew first blood in the third minute of the second period. Leading scorer Frannie Collin converted a penalty awarded for handball.
But Ramsgate - the last team to beat United - equalised in the 71st minute with a spot-kick of their own. Aaron Millbank made no mistake from 12 yards after Jerrome Sobers was penalised.
United: Pidgeley, Butcher, Cruttwell, Evans, Sobers, Rowe, Bodkin, C. Harris (Stannard 71), Hughes-Mason (J. Harris), Collin, Stevenson (Emptage 71). Subs not used: Akoto, Nicholls. Attendance: 292.
Ryman Division One South top 10 (played-points): 1 Tooting & Mitcham United 37-86 (+60 goal difference), 2 Dorking Wanderers 37-80 (+46), 3 Greenwich Borough 36-72 (+33), 4 Corinthian-Casuals 37-69 (+19), 5 HASTINGS UNITED 37-67 (+54), 6 Carshalton Athletic 38-67 (+29), 7 Lewes 37-67 (+10), 8 Hythe Town 37-66 (+23), 9 Faversham Town 37-60 (+26), 10 Walton Casuals 38-60 (+6).
