Hastings should be on; Rye off

Hastings United’s game away to Wingate & Finchley today (Saturday) is expected to go ahead.

Wingate posted a message on social network site Twitter yesterday saying they were “very confident about the state of the pitch and no inspection is planned (barring something biblical overnight)”.

It’s an important match for the U’s as they bid to climb away from the lower reaches of the Ryman Football League Premier Division.

Fourth-from-bottom United are one place and two points above their north London opponents with four games in hand. Sean Ray’s side is unbeaten in 10 and has lost only one of its last 16 fixtures in all competitions.

Elsewhere, Rye United’s scheduled visit from Ringmer in Sussex County Football League Division One has unsurprisingly been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Rye tweeted yesterday “almost certainly off bar a miracle. Inspection early tomorrow a formality”. A subsequent Tweet this morning read: “Moses fails to turn up and part the waters on The Salts”. Rye v Ringmer OFF as predicted”.

It means that Rye’s last three and five of their last six scheduled matches have been called-off. The Quarterboys have played just twice since the 4-1 victory at Burgess Hill Town on November 20.

Westfield and Sidley United had been hoping to fix up a last minute friendly, but that too won’t be happening due to the ongoing wet conditions.
