Hastings relegation rivals grab shock win

HASTINGS United have seen their cushion over the bottom four in the Ryman Premier relegation zone cut to six points.

Leatherhead boosted their prospects of avoiding the drop with a surprise 2-1 win away to play-off hopefuls Cray Wanderers on Sunday.

The U’s were in action the previous day when they were beaten 1-0 at home to fourth-placed Bury Town, with the only goal coming 15 minutes from time.

Horsham have already been relegated, and Aveley and Tooting & Mitcham United seem certain to join them, but the fourth and final relegation place is still up in the air.

Leatherhead still have home fixtures to come against Aveley and Horsham, and maximum points from those two games could well drag one from Harrow Borough, Hastings, Carshalton Athletic and Wingate & Finchley into the danger zone.
