Goldberg injured in heavy defeat

Hastings United suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Concord Rangers this afternoon (Saturday) and lost leading scorer Bradley Goldberg to injury.

United’s third successive away loss without scoring in the Ryman Football League Premier Division has dropped them to third-from-bottom and they are still without a league victory since November 6.

Goldberg went off with an ankle injury around the half-hour mark when the game was still goalless, and Concord took command with two goals in the final five minutes or so of the opening half.

Tony Stokes opened the scoring with a penalty conceded by debutant United goalkeeper Daniel East, signed on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion this week, and Jason Hallett made it 2-0 just before the break.

Hallett added another seconds after the restart to effectively put the result beyond doubt and Leon Gordon rounded-off the scoring as Canvey Island-based Concord moved up to second. United also gave a debut to forward Mikel Suarez.

United: East, Cox, Whitehead, Carey, Ray, Judge, Crellin, Okojie, Attwood, Suarez, Goldberg. Subs: Richardson, Bachellier, Ellis, Winchester.
