Four-star Sidley hammer Hassocks

Goals from Gregg Berry - his second in successive matches - and Dean Boyd put the Blues two-up in their latest Sussex County Football League Division One fixture only for Nathan Miles to pull one back for fifth-placed Hassocks before half time.

Second half goals from Matt Darby and Kenny Pogue made sure of the points for Sidley, who are now up to 15th and seemingly well clear of relegation danger. It was Sidley’s second win over Hassocks this season following their FA Cup victory away to the same opponents back in August.

In the same division, seventh-placed Rye United extended their unbeaten run under joint managers Marc Gall and Anthony Storey to eight matches with a creditable 1-1 draw at home to third-placed Pagham.

A below strength Rye side took a 26th minute lead through a terrific left-foot shot by Olly Lockyer and looked like holding on for a second win over Pagham in less than a fortnight until Howard Neighbour headed an 88th minute equaliser.

Little Common’s hopes of a top three finish in Division Two suffered a setback with a 4-0 loss away to title chasing Littlehampton Town. All the goals came during the second half with Michael Hendrick netting the first two, and Jamie Thompson and Ben Gray rounding-off the scoring.

Westfield made it four wins in five outings with a very good 2-1 victory away to Loxwood. Gordon Cuddington scored a late winner for the second successive Saturday after Steve Thomson had briefly given seventh-placed Westfield a first half lead.

Bexhill United’s poor run continued with a 3-1 loss away to fellow mid-table side Mile Oak. An early goal from Jamie Watts gave Oak the half time advantage before Lloyd Skinner and Paul Eaton put them three-up. Dom Bristow scored Bexhill’s consolation.
