Former Sussex schooolboy suffers World Cup semi-final heartbreak

Former Sussex schoolboy Gareth Southgate suffered World Cup semi-final heartbreak after his England team lost 2-1 after extra-time against Russia.

Southgate grew up in Crawley, West Sussex, and went to Pound Hill Juniors and Hazelwick.

Kieran Tripper gave England the lead in the fourth minute before Ivan Perišić equalised on 68 minutes, which took the game into extra-time. But Mario Mandžukić's goal in the 109th minute settled matters.

Despite the defeat, Southgate has helped restore some national pride in our football team.

England fans at the Snooty Fox in Gareth's home town were in fine voice during the game - you can see the video above.
