In-form Bexhill tackle high-flyers

Bexhill United’s improved form will be put to the test tonight (Tuesday).

Darrol Parris’ side will host second-placed Hailsham Town having picked up 16 points from a possible 18 in Sussex County Football League Division Two.

Parris, pictured, said: “We’ll go into it to try and get three points. I think the lads will be confident for it and I’m confident as well, but it depends if we turn up or not. I think we owe them one.”

Bexhill were beaten 4-0 in the reverse fixture on the August Bank Holiday Monday when they conceded four times in the second half after having the better of the opening 45 minutes.

They then won 2-1 away to Hailsham in a Division Two Challenge Cup tie in mid-October only to be booted out of the competition for fielding, albeit unwittingly, an ineligible player in the form of Jamie Morgan.

Bexhill’s good run has taken them up to seventh place, while Hailsham are unbeaten in the league since Boxing Day and need only four points from their last eight games to make absolutely sure of finishing in a promotion position.

Andy Garman is still not quite ready to return for Bexhill, but Dom Bristow is set to come back into the squad after getting some game time with the reserves at the weekend. Kick-off at The Polegrove is 7.45pm.
