Fine wins for Rye and Sidley

Rye United and Sidley United picked up much-needed Sussex County Football League Division One victories on Saturday.

Sidley ended a run of eight defeats in 11 matches with a 2-1 success away to AFC Uckfield, while Rye put a sequence of one point from three league games behind them by winning 5-2 at home to Arundel.

Matt Maclean scored a hat-trick for Rye - his first coming after 56 seconds and the last in the first minute of added time - and there was one each for Duncan McArthur (penalty) and Scott Ramsay.

Jason Taylor scored both goals for Sidley, but there was less good news from elsewhere with Bexhill United, Little Common and Westfield all tasting defeat.

Common lost 2-0 at home to Midhurst & Easebourne and Bexhill went down by the same score at Mile Oak in Division Two, while Westfield were edged out 5-4 after extra-time at home to Dorking Wanderers.

Joe Barham, Sam Willett and Ben Ridgway were on target for Westfield in a John O’Hara League Challenge Cup second round tie. Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s 0bservers.
