Fine wins for Rye and Sidley

Rye United continue to lead the Sussex County Football League following a splendid victory on Monday.

Goals from Sam Adams, Matt Maclean and Scott Ramsay gave the Quarterboys a well-deserved 3-1 win away to a Peacehaven & Telscombe side which began the day second in Division One.

Sidley United made it three wins and clean sheets out of three in the same division with a single goal success at Ringmer. Kevin Bird grabbed the winner during a second half bossed by the Blues.

An excellent 94th minute header by Chas Lister salvaged a 1-1 draw for Little Common at home to Westfield in Division Two. Sam Henham had given the visitors a 69th minute lead and both sides hit the woodwork.

It was a bad day for Bexhill United, however, as their three-match winning run came to a grinding halt with a 4-0 defeat at Hailsham Town. All the goals came in the second half and ex-Rye striker Danny Leach bagged a hat-trick.

Full reports on each of these games will appear in Friday’s Observers.
