Common: Morris will be joining

Common were entitled to speak to Morris at the end of last week following a seven-day approach and Eldridge claims that Bexhill’s 14-goal leading scorer will be moving to the Recreation Ground.

He said: “He’s going to be joining us which is good news. We’ve just got to sort out the paperwork, but he’s agreed to come to us. It’s a really good signing for the last push. He’s someone I approached in the summer, but we’re happy to have him now. He brings experience to us, knows where the back of the net is and gives us a physical threat as well.”

Morris is suspended for Bexhill’s next two games which means he won’t be able to play for Common against the Pirates on Monday. He would have been able to had Bexhill’s match away to Newhaven last weekend not been postponed.

Common have also issued a seven-day approach for Rye United wide player Liam Upton. The 22-year-old started the season with Hastings United and spent time at Brighton & Hove Albion in his teens.

“I’m not too sure what’s going to happen with that,” admitted Eldridge. “It was a last minute kind of thing. We’ll see what the situation is. If we can get him, it will be fantastic. If not, we’re happy with what we’ve got.”

Rye joint manager Marc Gall said: “Liam can talk to them yes. I’m confident he’ll stay as I believe he’s enjoying playing for this football club. It’s always a worry that a player might decide to go, but with Liam I’m hopeful he’ll stay for at least the remainder of the season, if not longer.”

The transfer deadline, incidentally, for Sussex County League clubs is Sunday.
