Chesham told visit to Hastings United 'won't be very nice'

Chesham United visit The Pilot Field in the FA Cup on Tuesday – and Hastings boss Chris Agutter is warning them: It won’t be very nice.

The Us earned a place in next Tuesday’s first qualifying round by beating Herne Bay 1-0 in last Saturday’s preliminary round home tie.

Jack Dixon’s late goal avoided the need for penalties after Hastings had struggled to break down a Herne Bay side who Agutter said parked the bus even before they went down to ten men.

Now he is relishing the chance to take on Chesham, who play one level above Hastings – in the Southern League premier division.

Agutter said: “We were pretty comfortable against Herne Bay. We controlled the game and when we changed shape in the last 20 minutes and moved Jack Dixon higher up the field, it did the trick.

“We want to make The Pilot Field a bit of a fortress – our home record over the past couple of years is very, very good – and for Chesham, it will be a long trip to make in midweek and it won’t be very nice for them.

“We’re pleased to have another home tie.”

Because crowd sizes are still restricted, the Cup tie is another all-ticket affair and they’re selling well.

That’s no surprise – for Saturday’s league opener versus Cray sold out early in the week and Hastings Women, who are also being very well backed, have shifted more than 100 tickets for Sunday’s Sussex League game against Pagham.
