Burgess Hill beat Peacehaven 3-1 in pre-season friendly

Burgess Hill continued their pre-season friendlies with a 3-1 win over Peacehaven and Telscombe

Burgess Hill started applying plenty of pressure within the first ten minutes which led to the first goal when Josh Jones hit a long cross field ball which was only half cleared allowing Darren Budd to calmly slot the ball past the advancing keeper.

Peacehaven’s first chance of the game fell to Tom Lawley but his volley from a tight angle cleared the Hill goal. Burgess Hill Town got their second of the game on 17 minutes when a Tommy Fraser free kick was neatly headed home by Phil Johnson.

Peacehaven’s Tom Lawley tried to catch out Matt Morrish when he shot from just inside the half but Morrish was able to tip the ball just over the bar.

The lively Calum Saunders created himself an excellent chance on 25 minutes when he cut in from the right but his low shot was saved by Allieu Secko.

Hill continued to dominate possession but were unable to add to their tally in the first half.

The second half started with Henry Daly being replaced by Lee Harding at right back.

Hill started the second half as they had finished he first by controlling possession and it only took a minute to create their first effort of the half. Phil Johnson’s cross found Dan Pearse inside he box but his goal bound effort was deflected for a corner. Hill got their third of the game on 49 minutes when Phil Johnson created space for himself inside the box and his shot found the bottom corner of the net.

On 60 minutes Hill replaced Graham Martin, Phil Johnson and Josh Jones with George Branford, Dan Perry and Chris Smith and it took only a minute for Branford to get involved but his powerful shot went just over.

Tommy Fraser created himself an excellent chance when his good work down the right saw him cut into the box but his low drive was well saved by Secko.

Hill then replaced Darren Budd and Calum Saunders with Pat Harding and Scott Kirkwood however the next chance fell to Peacehaven’s Charlie Pitcher when he broke clear and hit his low shot past Morrish in the home goal to make it 3-1.

Matt Morrish was then replaced by Josh Green in the Hill goal. The last two chances of the half fell to Hill, the first on 82 minutes when Jack Rowe-Hurst crossed to Chris Smith whos shot beat the advancing Secko but was cleared from danger off the line. The second on 88 minutes when Scott Kirkwood’s powerful effort from just outside the box was turned round the post by Secko.

This is another good work out for Ian Chapman’s squad with the next game being away to Hassocks in the Ann John Trophy.
