Just days after the conclusion of the 2014/15 campaign, the Ryman Football League Division One South outfit has decided not to retain Nigel Kane as first team boss.

A club statement read: “At a board meeting on Tuesday April 28, it was unanimously decided that the club should look to appoint a new first team manager. It is the club’s intention to advertise the managerial position at the earliest opportunity.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Nigel Kane and his coaching staff for their hard work over the last four months. The club intend to speak to Nigel to see if he has any interest in exploring other positions that may exist at the club.”

Kane became United’s third permanent manager of a turbulent season when he succeeded Dom Di Paola in January and oversaw a 19th place finish.

United avoided relegation thanks to a run of 10 points from their final five games having picked up just four points from their previous 10 outings. In all Kane achieved five wins, five draws and nine defeats from 19 matches in charge.

It was Kane’s second spell as permanent United boss having previously been in The Pilot Field hot seat from late 2005 until late 2007, during which time he led the U’s to promotion via the play-offs at the end of the 2006/07 campaign.

Kane returned to the club as part of Terry White’s coaching team in February 2014, and was subsequently appointed to a new role as head of footballing development upon Di Paola’s arrival from East Preston in October.
