Breaking news: Home draw incentive for United

Hastings United’s footballers will again be at home in the next round of the FA Trophy if they get there.

The U’s will host East Thurrock United in third round qualifying if they win their rearranged second round qualifying tie at home to Merthyr Town tomorrow (Tuesday). Kick-off is 7.45pm.

The tie against Merthyr got under way on Saturday, but was abandoned at half time due to a waterlogged pitch at The Pilot Field with United trailing 2-0. The Welsh outfit had also had a player sent-off.

Whoever comes out on top tomorrow night will take on an East Thurrock side which lies 13th in the Ryman Football League Premier Division, which is one level above Ryman Division One South club United. Third round qualifying will take place on Saturday November 28.

United’s last meeting with East Thurrock, on a Thursday night back in April 2013, resulted in the U’s being relegated from the Premier Division following a 1-0 defeat in Essex. The reverse fixture that season ended in a 1-1 draw.
