The Commoners have won six of their eight matches in the knockout competitions so far this season, and are through to the quarter-finals of the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup and now the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup.

Common player-manager Eldridge said: “I don’t know whether it’s a midweek thing or what it is. We just seem to have performed well in those midweek games.

“At times we’ve had to show a never-say-die attitude and I think there’s a real hunger to do well in the cups.

“There’s a long way to go and at the moment we’re giving ourselves chances. Nothing will faze us. We’re the underdogs now at this stage, but as our results have shown, we’re not to be taken lightly.”

Despite their cup success, Common are only 10th in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One ahead of the visit from Southwick tomorrow (Saturday).

More cup action is on the agenda on Tuesday night when Oakwood will again come to the Rec, this time in round two of the Parafix Sussex Senior Cup.
