The Pirates made it two wins and two defeats in their final four Sussex County Football League Division Two games by winning a match in which all the goals came during the first half.

Bexhill made a flying start against a Steyning side which tumbled into the bottom half of the table after failing to win any of its last 11 fixtures, taking a two-goal lead in the opening 11 minutes.

A great header by defender Steven Earley put Division Two Challenge Cup finalists Bexhill ahead in only the sixth minute and Jamie Salvidge doubled the visitors’ lead five minutes later.

Steyning pulled one back through Mo Shugaa on 21 minutes as a lively opening quarter continued. Salvidge rattled the home crossbar with a terrific effort before Kasey Smith restored Bexhill’s two-goal cushion in the 45th minute.

There was no further scoring after the interval as Bexhill ended their inaugural campaign under manager Kenny McCreadie just inside the top half in eighth position.
