Bennett picks up first win as Golds boss

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club boss Mark Bennett was celebrating his first win in charge on Tuesday evening after a 2-0 success at Oakwood.

Bennett had only been denied his first victory on Saturday when Hailsham netted a late leveller. And he believes four points from their first two County League Division 2 games of the season has set a good base for the rest of the season.

He said: “We made hard work of it on Saturday as we didn’t take our chances, but three points is three points.

“We haven’t had our full side out yet and have players to come back in, but it’s a good base for us.”

Littlehampton went ahead at Oakwood on 15 minutes when Mitchell Hand curled home a free kick from the edge of the area.

Peter Beadle doubled the lead 10 minutes later when he latched onto a back pass, rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Golds could have made the victory more emphatic but Jerry Manning was denied by both the post and the bar and Dean Janman had two one-on-one efforts saved.

LITTLEHAMPTON: Fuller; Goff, McKay, Russell, Kempson; Beadle, Manning, Burgess, M.Hand; Gaskin, Janman. Subs: Schneider (Janman 60), Wrigley (Burgess 65), Taylor (Manning 80), Bates, D.Hand.
