Baldock scored his 12th goal of the season in the 3-0 victory against Derby on Friday, which turned out to be Steve McClaren's final game in charge of the Rams.

Brighton are second, level on points with leaders Newcastle, and six points ahead of third-placed Huddersfield, who have a game in hand.

When asked if Friday's convincing win against Derby put down a marker, Baldock said: "Definitely. They'd (Newcastle and Huddersfield) have been hoping we slipped up as they know how good Derby are and would have been hoping they could take points off us but that wasn't to be.

"We're just going to focus on ourselves and worry about us.

"I think it was one of the best performances we've had for a long time and everything seemed to click. The scoreline could have been slightly higher."

Albion are now preparing for a trip to fifth-placed Leeds United on Saturday and Baldock said: "They're a very good side, especially at home but we got the win there last year, so we'll aim to do that again."
