Adams returns to Hastings

Sam Adams has returned to Hastings United from Rye United.

The versatile attacking player will be in the Hastings squad for the Ryman Football League Premier Division match away to Cray Wanderers on Saturday.

Hastings player-manager Sean Ray said: “Everything’s been agreed and I’ve done everything properly. He will bring a lot of quality in the final third and I’m hoping it’s going to give everyone a little boost.

“Sam should never have left Hastings in the first place and if he was going to leave, it should’ve been to move up not down.

“I’ve not really had to chase Sam too much. I found out about the problems with Rye (players’ pay being stopped), we thought we would speak to Sam, make him an offer and he wants to come back.”

Adams was a key member of the Hastings squad for several seasons before joining Rye in summer 2011. Last year he helped Rye win the Sussex RUR Charity Cup for the first time since 1968 with both goals against Selsey in the final.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “He wants to have one last crack at playing at Ryman level. I think he feels he’s got something to prove to himself and I’ve never ever slagged a player off for leaving to play higher level football.

“If we had 11 Sams in the team, we would win the league easily. He gives 150 per cent every time he plays. He’s always training, he’s always on time and he plays wherever I tell him to play.”

Hastings have also brought young Aldershot Town left-back Rory Murphy back to the club for the remainder of the season. For the full articles, see tomorrow’s Observers.
