FOOTBALL: Rebels ready to hit the road again

AFTER playing their first home match for three weeks on Saturday, following four successive away games, Worthing Football Club have two more tricky away matches coming up.

After Saturday's frustrating 0-0 draw with Ashford Town ended Rebels' five-game winning streak, ninth-placed Worthing will look to continue their eight-match unbeaten league run when they travel to lowly Whitstable on Saturday, and eighth-placed Sittingbourne on Monday.

Worthing skipper Ben Andrews returns to the side after serving a one-game suspension against Ashford, and said: "It was disappointing to miss out and have to watch '“ especially as I'd have loved to been getting on the end of all the crosses which flew into their penalty area.

"It is, however, a great time to be coming back '“ going in to two tough games in a short space of time.

"We need to be confident going into both matches, and play to the standard that we know we are capable of.

"Whitstable on Saturday is one of the games that we need to be winning. Last season, we performed well against the top sides and let up when we played the slightly weaker teams in the league.

"Monday night will be a hard game. We drew and lost to Sittingbourne last year, so know they are a tough side.

"They have decent centre-forwards, who have scored a lot of goals, so we will be wary. But there is no reason we can't go up there, play like we have been, and get the result."

Despite the returning Andrews, Worthing are still hindered by injury troubles. Defender Matt Simpson is still a couple of weeks away from fitness, while Jorge Lopes injured knee ligaments in training last Thursday. But Rebels hope Paul Kennett will return from his hamstring injury this weekend.

Worthing joint manager Danny Bloor said: "These are two very tough games '“ no doubt about it. Although we have some injuries, we need to dig into the resources we've got, get on, and get the results."
