Disappointed Lee looks to future

Lee Emanuel is looking forward to rebuilding his career after a hugely disappointing Aviva 2012 Trials and Championships.

The St Leonards-based runner came 11th in heat two of the men’s 1,500m at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium last Friday afternoon with a time of 3:54.49.

He said: “It was very disappointing. It wasn’t a shock to me, but it was still the slowest time I’ve run since I can remember. It got it out the way, though, and now I can move on.”

Representing Sheffield, Emanuel was six seconds slower than the two qualifiers from his heat for the following day’s final despite not being bothered by a torn quadricep muscle.

Emanuel, who recently turned 27, is planning to relax and spend some time with friends this week before heading back out to New Mexico next week to resume training.

“Hopefully I can get a decent race before the season ends and then get ready for next year,” he added. “I don’t think I’ve lost it by any means, but one bad race after another has led to my confidence taking a big hit.”

The former William Parker Sports College student and Hastings Athletic Club runner came second in the Aviva 2009 Trials and Championships and represented England over 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games the following year.
