Dick hails squad strength

WORTHING Rugby Club's Chairman of senior rugby Dick Mowbray has hailed the current side as one of the club's best-ever.

Following their fourth win in five league games this season, he said: "No player can afford to rest on his laurels this season.

"In the years I have been involved at Worthing, this is potentially our strongest and most talented squad. The second side that played Canterbury on Saturday could have been the first XV in other seasons, such is our strength in depth."

In achieving this whitewash of South London side Barnes on Saturday, Worthing never had to work too hard, and only in one spell were they called on to robustly defend their line.

The hosts got into their stride after an over-eager first five minutes, and made clean line-out possession tell, with centre Jamie Stewart-MacDonald and wing Kiba Richards being fed with scoring chances in both corners.

New fly-half Daniel Jones did not take advantage of these conversion attempts, but was successful with a 25th-minute penalty.
