After a 20-minute battle, the St Leonards-based angler finally landed the orange coloured mirror carp known as ‘Warty’ at a staggering 36lb 2oz.

Harland was fishing on the legendary Kell Lake for only his second time with Mainline Cell boilies cast to the far bank. The weight was independently witnessed and after signing up for a season ticket, he said it was money well spent!

On the first visit to the lake, Harland fished with his friend Dan Brazier, who managed to catch six carp ranging between 15 and 27lb. Harland was very pleased to tell Brazier that his catch surpassed his largest of the previous session.

On the same day as Harland’s huge catch, John Oliver won his second match in a row at Wylands fishing the peg next to his win of the previous week. Drawing peg 15, he fished with paste to secure his win with a total weight of 93lb 8oz.

Mick Wells (fishing for Sensas) finished second from peg three with a total weight of 65lb. Third and fourth place were closely fought. Anthony Ellis drew peg 33, renowned for its poor performance. Simon Dixon, on the other hand, was fairly confident on peg five.

Both anglers were almost back to back, and the banter was cheerful and everso slightly competitive. Ellis finished with an extremely impressive haul of 52lb 4oz, with Dixon weighing in at 51lb 4oz.
