Sussex Cricket League Division Two side Park won by eight wickets away to East Sussex Cricket League Division One team Newick in the ECB Davidstow Village Cup yesterday (Sunday).

Park elected to field on winning the toss and duly bowled their hosts out for just 63 in 26.2 overs. The writing was perhaps on the wall for Newick when opener Will Sawyer was caught and bowled by Park captain Paul Brookes before a run had been scored.

Although Jonathan Barnes and Rupert Thacker - the only two batsmen to reach double figures with 11 apiece - took the score to 22 before the second wicket fell, Brookes snapped up both within six runs of each other.

None of the remaining batsmen scored more than six as wickets tumbled with frequent regularity. Brookes finished with 4-15 off nine overs and Clive Tong went one better with 5-15 from 7.2. Ed Smissen was Park’s other wicket-taker.

Smissen top-scored with 26 as Park knocked off the runs for the loss of just two wickets - both of which were LBW to Thacker - in 23.5 overs. Brookes was 19 not out and there were 14 wides - twice as many as Park sent down.
