Seventh heaven for seamer Heberlein in crucial win

Heberlein ended with impressive figures of 7-19 from 9.4 overs as Littlehampton recorded a six-wicket win at Wisborough Green.

Heberlein led the attack, while James Askew, Ryan Budd and Lucas Stubbs all chipped in with a wicket each as Wisborough were dismissed for 154 batting first.

Littlehampton had a slight wobble in reply, falling to 59-3 at one point, but Ally James’s 47 helped them ease home.

Skipper James Askew believed it was his side’s best performance of the season and said: “I felt it was the best we have played by a long way this season.

“Chris was magnificent with the ball and set it up for us. As a unit we bowled well and were backed up in the field.

“We had a few missing so several of the under-15 team stepped up and did themselves proud.

“We were a little shaky early on in reply but Ally’s knock helped us home.”

Skipper Askew had no hesitation in putting Wisborough in and his side made early inroads.

Martin Hopkins was clean bowled by the skipper for five as Wisborough found themselves 9-1.

Jack Carter (31) and Byron Napper (33) put on 56 for the second wicket but that was as good as it got for the hosts.

After Napper went, things fell apart and Wisborough went from 84-4 to 139-9.

Tim Dodd struck 31 but his side were bundled out for 154 from 46.4 overs.

Heberlein took seven
wickets to leave Little-hampton well in command.

Despite losing skipper James Askew for ten, contributions from Tom Lee (23), James (47), Louis Paul (31 not out) and an unbeaten 21 from Michael Askew saw Littlehampton home.

They reached their target in 32.2 overs.

Littlehampton moved up to third with the victory and trail league leaders Broadwater by 53 points with a game in hand.

Skipper Askew believes his side will need to win all five of their remaining matches to have any hope of lifting the title.

He said: “We’ve given ourselves a slight chance but it’s Broadwater’s to lose.

“I’ve said that for a few weeks and I still see it as that.

“We’ve got two games to play before our second game against them this season.

“Next up we face Eastergate, who haven’t lost this season, and we know it’s going to be tough but we have to win.

“All we can do going forward is focus on ourselves and make sure we win our matches.

“If we keep winning, who knows where we may be able to end up?

“It’s just a case of putting pressure on Broadwater now.”
