Priory beaten in last over drama

Joe Lamb scored a half-century at the top of the order in Hastings Priory's narrow defeat to Pagham on Saturday

An unbeaten 92 by Eranga Dissangge guided hosts Pagham to a three-wicket victory with just two balls remaining after they had recovered from 32-4 in a closely-contested Division Two fixture.

Priory had earlier battled their way to maximum batting points having lost the toss and been asked to take first knock.

Joe Lamb was the bedrock of the innings with a patient 58 from 120 balls at the top of the order. Lamb put on 40 for the first wicket with Elliot Hooper (27), 41 for the second wicket with Jack Colley (23) and 54 for the fourth wicket with Jed O’Brien (25).

After Lamb was fourth man out with the score 144, however, Priory drifted to 180-9 before another good knock from Jake Woolley (28 not out off 34 balls) got them up to 200-9 from their 53 overs. Nabib Rahman took 4-47 and Dissangge 3-29.

Priory got off to a great start in the field with Adam Barton and John Morgan dismissing both openers with only 15 on the board. Morgan struck again six runs later and a Ted Smith run out appeared to leave Pagham in trouble.

But Dissangge masterminded the turnaround, firstly in a fifth wicket partnership of 97 with Stuart Rutter (39) and then a sixth wicket stand of 56 with Joe Turner (23).

Although Morgan (3-39) and Barton (3-34) pegged Pagham back to 189-7, Dissangge got them home on a rare day when Priory’s usually prolific spin department returned home wicketless.
