Poysden bowls over Eastbourne

The title outsiders had looked to be heading for a big defeat as Eastbourne progressed to 190-2 in pursuit of a target 248.

That was until leg-spinner Josh Poysden changed the course of the contest with excellent bowling figures of 8-65 in 17 overs.

His victims included Test players Alan Wells, Mohammed Akram and Ed Giddins, all for ducks!

Eastbourne skipper Mark Tomsett made 120 and was seventh out as the visitors were dismissed for 221 all out with an over remaining.

Earlier in the day, Priory’s Sussex professionals Kirk Wernars ( 58) and Matt Machan (76) were well supported by Toby Finzel (45) and Harry Finch (37).

Former Pakistani Test bowler Akram took 5-30 with the last seven wickets falling for just 21 runs.

Despite the win Priory failed to close the gap on the leaders who also celebrated maximum point wins on Saturday.

Preston Nomads made short work of East Grinstead and Horsham were always in control at home to Chichester Priory Park. The next day Horsham hit the front in the Sussex Premier League after getting the better of the Sussex Development XI.
