More Monty magic can’t save England

Former Bexhill cricketer Monty Panesar produced another fine performance for England last weekend.

The spinner picked up seven wickets, including taking 5-124 from 56.4 overs in Pakistan’s second innings, during the third Test in Dubai.

Panesar also claimed seven wickets in the previous week’s second Test in Abu Dhabi which marked his return to the international arena after an absence of three years.

Despite Panesar’s performances, England suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the series as they struggled to cope with Pakistan’s spinners. England totalled more than 260 only once in six innings.

Sussex ace Panesar, 29, made five Sussex Premier League appearances for Bexhill in 2010, taking 18 wickets at 17.83 and scoring one half-century with the bat.

For England, he has taken 140 Test wickets at 33.71 with 10 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match. He has also bagged 24 scalps in 26 One Day Internationals.
