Lindfield Cricket Club round-up

Batting first, Crowhurst posted 205/9. Nicholas Taylor (28) and Dale Payne (113no) put on 60 for the first wicket but regular wickets pegged Crowhurst back. Matthew Yelverton took 4/65 from 18 overs and Hayden James also took 2. Stephen Pearce’s late 3 wickets stemmed any further runs as Payne did most of the damage in terms of runs.

Lindfield started cautiously, and at 36/2 were reeling a touch. However, a good partnership between Tom Howard (76) and Shane Yelverton (27) repaired things slightly. However, Paul Brooks’ nagging bowling took regular wickets as Lindfield were struggling at 149/8 – Brooks having taken 5 by now. Kevin Chamberlain and Luke Sowton managed to cling on for a draw as Lindfield finished 172/9.

Lindfield CC 2nd XI v Steyning CC 2nd XI

Lindfield won by 4 wickets

Lindfield took on Steyning who won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a decision they were inevitably lamenting, as Scott Pedley (3/26), Josh Hinde (3/33) and Seb Masters (1/53) tore through the top order, leaving Steyning 44/5. However, a partnership of 129 between Christopher Barnett (80) and Sam Sutterlin (64) moved Steyning to a comfortable 190/9.

However, with a quick outfield Lindfield chased with 3 overs to spare and 4 wickets in hand. Jack Sadler (70) was the mainstay with useful 20’s from the top order. A late 54 from Adam Wright batting at 7 ensured Lindfield left nothing to chance as they came away with 28 points to sit third in the division.

Lindfield CC 3rd XI v Roffey CC 3rd XI

Lindfield won by 1 wicket

On a poor Hickmans Lane wicket Lindfield 3rd XI won a close game by 1 wicket to maintain their mid table position. Roffey elected to bat first but were soon regretting their decision with Alex Taylor (34no) providing the only resistance in a meager total of 80 all-out. Roffey struggled all afternoon as the impressive Will Spence bowled with control and pace, destroying the top order with 5 for 35 in 13. Together with Ross Pedley (2 for 5) and (Arden Foster Spink 2 for 24), Roffey were never able to create partnerships of any substance.

However, the Roffey score of 80 looked potentially match winning as Lindfield slipped to 36 for 6 and 62 for 9. With the pressure building the last pair of Dominic Morgan (20no) and Will Spence (8no) batted with composure and maturity with a last wicket partnership of 19 to hit the winning runs and secure 30 valuable points.

Lindfield CC 4th XI v Cuckfield CC 4th XI

Cuckfield won by 5 wickets

Cuckfield won a hard fought local derby match at Cuckfield Park on Saturday by 5 wickets. Cuckfield won the toss and asked Lindfield to bat, and on a slow, low wicket Lindfield started well with Sean Sage (21) and Malcolm Page (44) giving LIndfield a good base with an opening partnership of 57. However wickets thereafter continued to fall and despite another controlled and excellent innings by Graham Page (53) the innings fell short at 172 for 8. John Hayes bowled well for Cuckfield, taking 3 for 41.

Cuckfield innings started slowly against tight bowling but were well placed before the first wicket fell at 53. A flurry of wicket left the game in the balance at 115 for 5 but an excellent partnership by youngsters Sam Candfield (68no) and Charlie Best (28no) secured a well-deserved victory with an over to spare with the last 100 coming in the last 15 overs. Grad Bradley-Ritt (2 for 45) and Lloyd Fielder (2 for 34) were the main wicket takers for Lindfield.
