Finch goes close to England fifty

Hastings Priory cricketer Harry Finch was a boundary away from scoring his maiden international half-century.

St Leonards-based Finch, who will celebrate his 18th birthday on Sunday, scored 46 during England under-19s’ second Test defeat to South Africa.

He was the second highest scorer in England’s second innings 250 and shared a second wicket partnership of 80 with Dominic Sibley, but it wasn’t enough to stave off a 67-run defeat at Paarl.

Batting at number three, Finch scored just a single in the first innings and took one wicket with the ball during South Africa’s second knock as the two-match series finished level.

Sussex CCC talent Finch, who attends Eastbourne College, helped the tourists to victory in the first Test with five wickets in Cape Town last week.

The teams are now preparing for a trio of one day internationals, starting at Paarl next Wednesday.
