Ex-Bexhill man stars for Zimbabwe

Craig Ervine, who was Bexhill’s overseas player in 2007, scored 85 off 81 balls with six boundaries and two sixes during the 175-run demolition of Canada in Nagpur on Monday.

It was the 25-year-old’s highest score in 16 One Day International matches and his second ODI half-century. It came exactly nine months after his debut against India in Bulawayo.

Ervine, whose older brother Sean has played for Zimbabwe and Hampshire, was Bexhill’s second highest 1st XI runscorer during his summer at The Polegrove with 433 runs from 16 Sussex League innings at an average of 30.93.

Michael Yardy, whose talent was forged with Battle and Hastings Priory Cricket Clubs, was part of the England team which suffered an embarrassing defeat to Ireland on Wednesday after the thrilling tie with India on Sunday.
