England women cricketers come to Sussex

England women’s cricketers Jenny Gunn, Danielle Hazell and Heather Knight, have visited Chance to Shine schools across Brighton and Hove to inspire pupils to play cricket and encourage them to come along and watch them in action during the Women’s Ashes NatWest Twenty20 International match at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove, on August 28.

The visit, which was part of the players’ role as Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassadors, saw the England women’s trio deliver a Women’s Ashes themed day of cricket activity for pupils, to help build excitement around this summer’s NatWest T20I between England women and Australia women in Hove in July.

Speaking about the visit to Brighton and Hove, England women’s vice-captain, Heather Knight said: “I really enjoyed visiting all of the Chance to Shine schools across Brighton and Hove, and helping to inspire the pupils at each of them to play cricket.

“In addition, it was the perfect opportunity to spread the word in the local area about the Women’s Ashes NatWest T20I at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, on August 28.

“This summer we are aiming to win our third consecutive Women’s Ashes series against Australia, and we want all the support we can get. We love playing in front of big passionate crowds, so hopefully this will be the case in Hove in August.

“My role as a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador is brilliant, as it allows me to combine playing international cricket with the opportunity to really make a difference at the grassroots of the game.”

England women’s wicketkeeper and Sussex women’s captain, Sarah Taylor, will also help to deliver a free coaching session for girls aged 8-15 at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground on Saturday June 20 from 10.00am-12.00pm.
