Alexia becomes Sussex’s most capped woman

The 30-year-old all-rounder won her 112th county cap when she played against Kent on Bank Holiday Monday.

Walker has been playing for Sussex for more than 20 years, firstly at junior county level before being selected for the senior squad in her teenage years. She has won the County Championship five times, twice as captain, and last year was involved in the T20 triumph.

Walker also plays an important role off the pitch with the Sussex Women’s Cricket Association, where she is one of the lead coaches for the county girls’ squads, as well as being a director of the Sussex Cricket Board. She will soon be taking on the role as director of cricket at the Aldridge Cricket Academy with the two Brighton Academies, BACA and PACA.

She continues to be a vital member of the Sussex Women’s side as a pace bowler and top order batsman in addition to being one of the leading catchers. And in no way does it look as though she will be stopping soon - which is good for Sussex - as her next target is to reach 150 caps.

Walker was a pupil at Little Common School, Bexhill High School and Bexhill College before going on to complete a sports management degree at Loughborough University.

Other highlights from her career include being vice-captain of the England women’s team which won the Under-21 European Championships and touring Australia with England under-19s in 2002, as well as captaining the under-21s against South Africa the following year.
