Cornish: Only worry is complacency

Paddy Cornish says his only concern is complacency as South Saxons head into the home stretch of their league season in pole position.

The Hastings club is a point clear at the top of South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One table with six games remaining.

“Now we’re top, I don’t want us to assume we’re already the best,” Saxons captain Cornish said. “Every week we’ll be facing teams who’ll want to test us, and it’s up to us to show how good we are to see them off and stay there.

“I honestly think it’ll go down to the last game of the season, but I want to win it so badly. Not just for myself, but for many Saxons club members who’ve put so much effort in over the years.”

Saxons will travel to fifth-placed Crowborough tomorrow (Saturday) and Cornish expects another tough match against a team which is having a decent season.

“Hopefully we can do a professional job,” continued Cornish. “We beat them in the cup earlier in the season after extra-time, as well as in the league. It will be another hard test, and we must make sure we’re up for it.”
