Cornish has decided to step down from the role now that the season’s over and his final game at the helm was last weekend’s loss against lower grade opposition.

He said: “I’m not saying I’ll never do it again, but I’ve got to the point where I can’t do any more and someone else can have a go. On a personal note a cup final would’ve been nice, but it wasn’t to be.”

Cornish, who plans to carry on playing, led Saxons to the South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One title last season and this term the club finished second-bottom of Kent/Sussex - Regional 2.

Crowborough have just come fourth in Sussex Division One and held a 1-0 half time lead against Saxons through a miscued shot which went through the legs of away goalkeeper Stewart Feakes.

Saxons upped their game and fashioned more chances than their opponents in the second period, but just when the visitors looked to be getting back into it, Crowborough struck again to go 2-0 up.

Crowborough went further ahead with a very well-taken third goal before Saxons, who had just the bare 11 players, pulled one back through Jamie Busbridge.
