Chucking it down- but that doesn't stop top-level chukkas taking place

A MISERABLE weather forecast did not stop polo enthusiasts arriving early for the St Regis England vs Italy test match at Cowdray Park.

With rain having fallen steadily for several hours, a decision had to be taken by the polo manager, Chris Bethell, to transfer the morning match, the final of the British Ladies' Tournament, sponsored by Windsmoor, to the adjoining ground to save the Lawns 2 pitch for the St Regis International Cup.

This did not stop several hundred spectators, who had already set up their gazebos and picnics on Lawns 2, from trekking across the grounds to watch a very exciting ladies' final.

As play progressed, the weather improved and glimpses of sunshine were a welcome bonus.
