The St Leonards potter came from 3-1 down to edge out Neil Robertson 4-3 in round two of the 888.com World Grand Prix, sealing victory on the final ball of an epic deciding frame which lasted more than an hour.

World number 19 Davis clinched the opening frame thanks largely to a break of 60, but scored just 36 points in the next three as Australian star Robertson rattled in runs of 44, 83 and 77.

Davis rattled through frame five in a single visit with a break of 81 to cut his deficit to 3-2 and then levelled the match by winning frame six with a closing 63.

There were no big breaks during a lengthy decider, yet it was a nailbiting affair throughout. Davis held a 50-29 lead at one stage before Robertson eventually edged ahead on the colours only for Davis to pot the final black and scrape home 57-55.

His reward is a quarter-final showdown with world number nine Stuart Bingham, who overcame Matthew Selt 4-2 in his second round tie this afternoon. That match is due to take place on Friday evening.

Davis, who reached the quarter-finals of last week’s Indian Open, previously saw off 10th-ranked Hong Kong player Marco Fu 4-1 in round one yesterday when he recovered from losing the opening frame to win the next four with breaks of 52, 102 and 109.
