Brave Combe Bye makes light of handicap

Sussex trainer Anna Newton-Smith sent out Come Bye to score an outstanding win at Fontwell Park on Saturday, making this the gelding's fourth win at the track, and fifth in all.

The 12-1 victory came despite the diminutive gelding having to shoulder near top weight on what was testing ground when partnered by Matt Batchelor. It was strongly contested handicap hurdle over two-and-a-half miels with Come Bye competing against Prian from the currently in-form Evan Williams yard and the fancied Assoon from Gary Moore;'s Brighton stable.

But Come Bye led almost from start to finish and plugged on to beat off a challenge from Piran with ease.
