Terrific Towse stuns national champ

Jake Towse produced a devastating display on his long-awaited return to the boxing ring.

Towse stunned Jordan Gill, a reigning CYP champion, with a first round knockout on West Hill Boxing Club’s own show at the Hollington Community Centre on Saturday night.

Gill, the younger boxer by a couple of years, landed the more eye-catching shots in the first minute. Towse then slowed things down before delivering a left hook to the body which put Gill down and he didn’t get up.

Barry Farthing preserved his unbeaten record courtesy of a unanimous points victory over Mark Mears in a real slugfest of an under-78 kilos contest which had the crowd going crazy.

Maris Baugers won his debut under-71 kilos bout by an identical margin against Rikki Pycroft (Brighton City). Baugers got caught during a cagey start, but stepped it up in the last and floored Pycroft with a straight left.

The show doubled up as the Sussex rounds of the Junior Novice Championships, although Callum Wood was the only one of the five West Hill entrants who actually boxed on the night.
