Boxers reach regional finals

WEST Hill will field five boxers in the NABC regional finals at Essex in just over a week's time.

Jason Brooker, Shaun Attrell and Luke and Alfie Chapman all received walkovers at the Sussex v Kent qualifying round at the Winter Gardens in Margate, on Saturday.

Joining them will be Bruce Lawson who marked his return to competitive boxing by turning on the style against home favourite Jake Beeby of the Grange Club in the under-60 kilo class A category.

The 15-year-old, who missed the majority of last season through back problems, silenced a very vocal crowd to score a unanimous points victory. Delighted coach Dave Bishop said: "Bruce boxed really well.

"He boxed to his potential and it was a clear decision."

The only West Hill boxer to miss out was Dennis Buchanan, 15, who was beaten but by no means disgraced at the hands of former schoolboys champion Ricky Rose (St Mary's, Chatham) in the under-54 kilo class A category.

Buchanan performed well but Rose had too much quality and comfortably booked his place in the regionals on October 30.
