Bowls tournament up and rolling

The Hastings Open Bowls Tournament got off to a positive start in hazy sunshine yesterday (Monday) morning.

Cllr Alan Roberts, Mayor of Hastings, and Mark Gardiner, chairman of the tournament’s main sponsor Croft Glass, delivered the first bowls of the event at White Rock Gardens.

The real action started at 9.30am with 20 matches in the men’s pairs followed at 1.30pm by the ladies’ singles with further matches getting under way at 5.20pm.

Competition was extremely fierce with some very evenly contested matches. Some members of the tournament committee didn’t last the first morning matches, but others safely proceeded to the next round.

Matches will continue throughout the week on a knockout basis, and prizes and trophies will be presented to the various winners after the finals on Saturday afternoon.

There will be a consolation pairs competition on Friday for those who have been knocked out in previous rounds.
