With the weather seemingly set fair, a big weekend lies in store for Hastings Priory’s cricketers on two fronts.

Priory will travel to reigning champions Preston Nomads in the Sussex Premier League today (Saturday) and neighbours Bexhill for an ECB Royal London Club Championship third round tie tomorrow.

“It’s a big weekend for us definitely,” said first team coach Ian Gillespie. “Bexhill away is always going to be a difficult game. It’s a derby game and I think The Polegrove will be a very different pitch for us, especially after the horse show.

“They’ll be up for it and they’re a good side so that’s going to be a challenge. If we could win that and get to the regional final that would bring some confidence.

“Perhaps even more important is the game at Nomads on Saturday. We want to get a win going if we can. It’s a tough game and we’ve had a tough start, but we’ve got to put a whole game together.

“I think our big problem so far is we’ve played well in parts of games, but we’ve not put a full game together and when we’ve had poor passages of play, it’s cost us dear.”

Finn Hulbert is expected to replace the injured Mick Glazier as Priory take on a Nomads side which has won the title for five of the last six seasons. The Bexhill match, incidentally, will get underway from 1pm.
