The eighth staging of the annual Poppy Half Marathon will be preceded by 5k and 10k races in a triple bill of distance running action.

All of the races will start and finish on the lawns outside the De La Warr Pavilion. The 5k Sussex Grand Prix race is first up at 10am, with the 10k following at 11am and the Poppy Half Marathon at 12.30pm.

Entries for the 10k and half marathon closed last weekend, although there might be a few charity places available if people defer or drop out. It will be possible to sign up for the 5k on the morning of the race at a cost of £12.

Registration will take place place at the De La Warr Pavilion from 8.45am when runners in all three races will be able to collect their race numbers and timing chips. Finishers in all three races will receive a specially commissioned Poppy Half medal.

Trophies will be presented to the top five male and female runners in the Poppy Half along with cash prizes of £100, £75, £50, £30, £15. There will also be male and female prizes in the 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and 65+ age groups.

Trophies will also be presented to the first, second and third male and female runners in the 10k and 5k races.

Just before the Poppy Half, there will be children’s races of 500m and 1,000m at 12.15pm. These races will be free of charge and there’s no signing on or race numbers, just a medal at the finish line.

The races are being organised by the Raising Money for Good Causes charity, and all entry fees and donations will go direct to the charity.

In 2015 the charity is supporting the Royal British Legion, SERV Sussex (emergency blood transport service, supported totally by volunteer riders) and Royal Marines Help the Wounded, and will also be providing grants to local under-25s to promote their physical wellbeing.

The charity has its own JustGiving page and you can join the Raising Money for Good Causes community by donating or fundraising.

Organisers welcome volunteer assistance on the day.
