Bexhill talent gets England call-up

An Egerton Park Indoor Bowls Club talent has achieved international recognition.

Ajay Morphett learned on Monday that he has been selected to represent England at the British Isles Indoor Bowls Council (BIIBC) Mixed U18s International Series.

The 14-year-old is one of 12 players in the England squad for an event which will be played at Aberdeen IBC on October 15 and 16.

Bexhill-based Morphett, who plays for Spartan Bowls Club outdoors in the summer, will play singles and skip a pair (alongside Devon Cooper from Riverain IBC) in ‘team two’.

The Bexhill Academy pupil impressed at an England under-18 trial in Rugby last weekend which was attended by nearly 50 talented young players, including another from Egerton Park in Alice Phillimore. The youngsters were put through their paces Andy Thompson and Nicky Brett with top bowlers in attendance.
