BEXHILL HOPE FOR BETTER FORTUNES

BEXHILL can put a miserable weekend behind them and move to the top of the Sussex Second Division on Saturday June 8.

A top-of-the-table defeat at home to Cuckfield saw the West Sussex side pull 15 points clear, but if Bexhill can get a good result against Littlehampton they will claim top spot as the top dogs have a week off.

Skipper Sam Roberts believes his team will have to work harder in the field after poor showings cost them dear on both Saturday and Sunday when they suffered an early exit from the Sussex Cup at the hands of Preston Nomads

However, the Australian all-rounder is still confident of a good result. He said: "I don't think Littlehampton are that strong a side but they seem to get a lot of draws so it could be hard to finish them off.

"If we bat first we'll be looking for over 200 because it's a game we should be looking to win."

Bexhill will be without Matthew Blackman and Ben Ridgeway. Youngsters Adam Wickenden and Richie May should keep their places after performing with credit in the cup game, and Richard Matthews and Lloyd Waughman will also be added to the squad.
