Bexhill boss still confident

BEXHILL United manager Len Watkins still believes his side will be among the Sussex Division Three front-runners despite losing 5-1 on the opening day of the football season.

The heavy defeat at Ifield Edwards failed to give a true indication of a match in which Bexhill had to play out the last 10 minutes one man short following the sending-off of 17-yer-old Matt Cornelius, and it was during this period that the home side added three more goals. Bexhill's consolation came from substitute Kieren Martin.

Bexhill will hope to get off the mark when they visit Upper Beeding on Saturday August 23.

Watkins insists morale in the camp is still high. "It's very, very positive. We've got a fantastic squad, both first team and second team, and I think it's coming together very, very nicely," he said. "I see no reason whatsoever why we shouldn't be challenging for a promotion spot because we've got the strength in depth."
