Barlow speeds to another title

Jack Barlow beat a quality field to retain a prestigious karting title on Sunday.

The Pett-based driver clinched the Rotax Cup at the Three Sisters circuit near Wigan to further boost his chances of winning the national Ginetta Super One Rotax Championship.

Despite a gaggle of slower drivers temporarily baulking him during his timed qualifying run, Barlow was able to comfortably secure pole position for the first of his two preliminary heats.

The 2009 Formula Kart Stars Mini Max Champion won the first heat to earn pole position for the second, in which he made a really good start and led from start to finish.

On the front row for the third team in the meeting, Barlow – who is sponsored by clothing giants Adidas and Superdry - got off to another great start in the grand final and opened a good gap on the rest of the field.

Although he made a mistake going through the Valley section of the track and lost time, the second-placed driver couldn’t quite get close enough and Barlow confidently powered away to cross the finishing line unchallenged.

The reigning British Kart Grand Prix champion will return to Wigan on October 16 and hopes he can use this latest triumph to inspire him to clinch the Ginetta Super One crown in the Junior Rotax category.

Barlow said: “I know what I need to do. I’m leading (the championship) by six points and my nearest rival has to finish ahead of me, so the pressure is on him.”
