1066 win own international gala

1066 SWIMMERS were the proud recipients of the twinning trophy after hosting an international gala with Frankfurt Oder (Germany), Oudenaarde (Belgium) and Hastings Seagulls.

The occasion commenced with the teams parading around the pool to their national anthems and holding their respective flags high to applause from the audience.

Out of 61 events, 1066 achieved 45 wins, with club records being broken by Emma Simpson, William Newell, Paul Dunmall and Megan Alsop. There were also personal best times from Eloise Bryant, Amberjae Lane, Courtney Mattocks, Sophie Hunnisett, and Abigail Hucker. 1066 also loaned Frankfurt Oder and Oudenaarde some swimmers to complete their respective teams.

Oudenaarde committee member Margaret Croft presented the twinning trophy.

The events of this outstanding day started with 1066's guests being treated to a tour of Hastings Old Town followed by lunch.

After the gala, swimmers and parents from all countries were treated to a fish and chip supper followed by a disco.

The day finished by waving off Frankfurt Oder for their return journey home.

The next day saw 1066 Swimmers host a traditional Sunday lunch for the Belgium guests and 1066 swimming squad.

Head coach Sean Collins said: "This was a fantastic achievement, not just in the water but with months of preparation that goes into hosting such a successful event. All helpers, parents, sponsors and dignitaries can be proud of their support and making this a memorable weekend."
